Faculty of Dentistry - Al Baha University seeks to achieve regional leadership and global excellence in the field of dental research and services and aims to prepare students with professional competencies in dental sciences through a distinguished and comprehensive education with a focus on the needs of the community of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region and provide an environment for lifelong learning. Bachelor of Dental Surgery

Overview

The Dental Surgery and Medicine program seeks to graduate highly qualified dentists with scientific, practical and professional skills, who adhere to the ethical and religious principles of society, able to take responsibility and teamwork for employment and community service, and to follow scientific and technical progress in various fields of dentistry in the world. And in Saudi Arabia. Also, to be able to meet the governmental and community needs in improving and developing health care services in oral health and contribute to raising the level of community awareness of oral health in line with Vision 2030.

Objectives

1. To graduate professionally qualified dentists who acquire lifelong learn skills 

2. To Obtain national and international accreditation by establishing a quality system to ensure excellence of program outputs

3. To Support and encourage scientific research in the Faculty of Dentistry

4. To provide quality dental services to patients and the community

5. To graduate professionally trained dentists with integrated and balanced personality capable of serving his community and country.

Outcomes

A. KNOWLEDGE DOMAIN

A.1 Assimilate and describe the application of , Basic science, health education, Biomaterial, biomedical, professional skills for practice of dentistry.

A.2 To recognize the function, application of the basic biology, anatomy, physiology bio chemistry, pathology in relation to the general health and to apply this knowledge differentiate normal and pathological state in oral health and function.

A.3 To describe the development and functions of oral and para oral structures of the head and neck, oral physiology, anatomy and be able to relate its role in the diagnosis, treatment of oral diseases to improve the quality of care to the patients.

 

B. COGNITIVE SKILLS

B.1 To justify the general medical principle, surgical application, biological function and behavior of persons in health and sickness as well as the influence of the natural and social environment on the state of oral and general health of a person in general and geriatric population to improve quality of life.

B.2 To interpret and apply the basic and advanced knowledge of  bio materials, clinical disciplines( oral diagnostics and radiological , oral surgical , restorative & Endodontics, orthodontics, prosthodontics, periodontal  pedodontics ) and interrelate methods which provide a coherent picture of  their respective anomalies, lesions and diseases of the teeth, mouth and jaws and apply in  preventive diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of Dentistry.

B.3 Describe and justify the principles of good research and biostatistics, how to access research, and interpret it for use in evidence based dental practice and follow the scientific principles needed for the provisions of high standards of oral health care for the community.

B.4 Develop knowledge to recognize medical emergencies and differentiate simple and advance cases of prosthodontic, restorative & Endodontics, periodontal, Dental implant, pediatric, orthodontics, traumatic and oral surgical cases and refer them to appropriate specialist for advanced treatment.

B.5 Adhere to the regulations of Saudi oral health care systems in the kingdom and advocate oral health promotions and oral disease preventions to improve the quality of life general population.

D. COMMUNICATION INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY NUMERICAL

D.1 To asses and communicate verbally, in writing with patients, their families, colleagues and other health professionals.

D.2 Practice team work and inter professional collaboration

D.3 Apply dental informatics, data mining in medical and dental health care system effectively

 

E. PSYCHOMOTOR

E.1 Acquire essential preclinical skills to demonstrate essential clinical skills to diagnose and manage various common dental problems encountered in general dental practice.

E.2 Use clinical reasoning, decision making, and problem-solving skills in routine dental practice

E.3 Formulate and implement appropriate management plans for patients with common dental diseases and place safely at the center of care process.

E.4 Manage all medical emergencies in dental practice, emergency dental problems and adequately stabilize the patient and for further referral for appropriate specialist care.

E.5 To perform basic investigation and interpret the same to diagnose and treat oral disease.

E.6 Demonstrate skills in the practice of preventive dentistry to Promote oral health and help prevent oral diseases in the clinical and community settings.

E.7 To perform basic and advanced procedure to control pain during dental treatment of patients to practice pain free dentistry.

Potential Jobs

The program opens to the student’s broad prospects, whether academic or professional, where the ability to conduct medical examination and diagnosis of treatment for patients with oral and dental, and conduct surgical operations in hospitals and private clinics, and the ability to conduct scientific research, including:

  • Dental stent medicine: This specialization is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal and bone diseases and surrounding teeth in addition to prevention.
