The Faculty of Sciences & Arts - Qilwah was founded in April 2012, under decree no. A/1196 by the Ministry of Higher Education. When inaugurated, the Faculty comprised of five departments: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and English Language. Apart from these, there were also three branches: Islamic Studies, Arabic Language and Computers & Information Technology which belong to the Faculty of Sciences & Arts - Almikhwah. The Faculty has been established in order to implement a number of principles in the district. These include providing equal opportunities, achieving justice between cities, providing training and learning opportunities for the people of Albaha region, and meeting the growing needs of graduates of the high school in the region.

The Faculty of Sciences and Arts in Qilwah is the fruit of the efforts of the university administrators, headed by His Excellency the Rector, and I thank him for the trust he has shown on me, asking the Almighty to be worthy of that precious trust, and ask Him to help me to promote and contribute to the faculty's’ developments. And all this will only be achieved with the help of Allah first and then the effort of everyone who belongs to this newly born faculty. The Faculty was established in Qilwah in 1433 AH with five departments: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and English Language. This faculty has several units and committees that serve various purposes that help achieve the goals of our faculty. There are two important units: Student Affairs Unit and Academic Guidance Unit, which are intended to help students in the process of registration, guidance and counselling. There is a unit for the members of the teaching staff. A cultural and social committee is also working in cooperation with the Deanship of Student Affairs that conducts general cultural lectures to develop cultural awareness among the students. The committee also coordinates scientific trips that link students with the institutions and companies related to their studies and make them acquainted with the surrounding environment. The Faculty also includes a Sports Committee that trains and prepares students, organizes matches and participates in the university championship in various types sports. Each of all these committee is supervised by pioneer of faculty members who have enough experience . The Faculty is keen to promote quality education for its students through the development of study plans as required by the International Accreditation Authority. I call upon my students to take interest in seeking and collecting knowledge and to make it their way in their lives in order to serve their homeland and religion.

Accordingly, the Vice-Deanship for Academic Affairs is concerned with the academic and educational aspects of the learning process. This goes along with the Faculty philosophy, vision, message and strategic objectives which focus on education quality through developing plans and academic as well as training programs in accordance with the comprehensive quality and academic distinction that suit the market needs.   The Faculty has successfully reached a prominent rank among Albaha University's faculties due to the wonderful efforts of its teaching staff as well as the distinguished performance of its students. This has been a direct result of the Faculty’s performance in the teaching processes which highlights the roles of professors as keys of knowledge that pave the way for students towards knowledge and enable them to access and research it fully with motivation and perseverance, helping them to improve their various skills and abilities.

  • Organizing and documenting exams procedures, evaluating students’ levels, and forming necessary groups for following up.
  • Suggesting forming committees for vice-deanship of academic affairs. Coordinating constantly with other deputies and departments’ heads to achieve Faculty’s objectives.
  • Contacting the counterpart administrative and academic units in the University to achieve the vice-deanship’s objectives in coordination with the Dean of Faculty.

The Vice-Deanship for Development and Quality aims at disseminating the culture of quality and development and insuring the requirement of the National Corporation for Academic Assessment and Accreditation Standards to insure performance quality at all the Faculty academic programs as an effort to contribute to achieving the vision, mission, goals and excellence aspired by the Faculty of Sciences and Arts (Qilwa). The Vice-Deanship also focuses on the importance of training programs and raising awareness as well developing the skills of all its academic staff and officials in order to achieve their effective contribution to developing performance through holding training programs and workshops, preparing strategic and development plans to reinforce the principle of sustainable development and improvement.

The Faculty of Science and Arts in Qilwah is one of the leading and academically distinguished facultys at Al-Baha University. It has scientific and literary specialties and is constantly striving to improve its graduates by honing their academic aspirations to fulfill their national role and keep up with the demands of the labor market.

The Department of Biology was established with the establishment of the Faculty of Science and Arts in Qilwah. The department was opened in the first semester of the academic year 1433/1434 H. The department seeks to provide educational programs that are subject to quality standards and to prepare distinguished cultural, scientific and research cadres in line with the requirements of the labor market in the Kingdom and contribute to the service of the community through excellence in the applications of various environmental fields of biology and the development of the awareness of our students and our children in line with the national vision of 2030. The department of Chemistry was established in the faculty of Science and Arts in Qilawah under the letter of the Minister of Higher Education No. 1196 / A on 7/6/1433 H. The faculty opened five academic departments: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and English. Then, three sections were added: two sections that follow the faculty of Science and arts in Al-Mekhwah: the Islamic Studies section, the Arabic Language section, and the Computer section followed by the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology.

  • Set up a file for each student to help in following up his academic progress and keep an updated report about him. Counselors will be given the authority of entering to the academic date base of the students to get an updated report of his academic information, credentials and lectures time table.
  • Coordinate with faculty members in the academic department to list students with academic difficulties, especially after midterm examinations, and also students with a high absence rates records and students who have weak learning faculties.

To obtain a pioneering position in the teaching and research of the English language and literature, both locally and regionally.

  • Training students to develop the basic linguistic and communicative skills so as to be capable of using language for various purposes.
  • Introducing English literature in different eras including literary schools of thought.

The Department of Biology offers a course of study leading to the granting of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. The program is designed to be presented by the Faculty of Science and Arts at Albaha University in line with the study plan with the other corresponding faculties at Albaha University. The Bachelor of Science program in the neighborhood helps students to work in different fields and qualifies them to develop their scientific and practical skills. And prepares them to continue their higher studies and research in the various fields of life sciences.

The program consists of 133 credit units divided into eight levels (four years of study). The student enrolled in this program must successfully complete (133) credits according to the study plan.

Overview

 

The program provides many opportunities for careers in teaching, industry, environmental organizations and others.  In addition, it prepares students for graduate studies in chemistry and other related fields.

The study plan for the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, meets the minimum requirements for professional chemists as defined by the American Chemical Society (ACS).  In tailoring the curriculum, the department was guided by the academic accreditation requirements, the standards of the National Commission for Academic Accreditation and Assessment (NCAAA) and according to the national qualifications framework for higher education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. With the possibility of continuous improvement of curricula and study plans so as to respond to the expected changes that may occur in the world.

The study Plan is designed to contain 132 credit hours, spread over eight semesters (four years of study). Courses include the university requirements, the department general requirements and major requirements. The curriculum and the study plan meet the minimum requirements for professionals’ chemists and prepares graduates to become qualified chemistry practitioners specialists and prepares them for success in competitive business environments.  In this program, students gain broad foundational skills in chemistry. The curriculum is designed to provide students with the foundation for postgraduate studies in all branches of chemistry and other related sciences.

The Chemistry Department responds to the educational needs required by the community in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and contributing to the community service activities through consultation and professional services in the field of Chemistry and chemical analysis. The department will give opportunities for industrial and service institutions to train their employees in the various fields of chemistry and chemical analysis. The department will provide training programs and lectures that help individuals in the private and public sectors  to update and refresh their information . As well as the department will work on the organization of conferences, training courses and programs that serve the Saudi society.
