Dr. Adel Sharaf Mohammed Al-Zubairi

I’ve has received my Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology and joined Post-Doc fellowship in the Laboratory of Cancer Research MAKNA-UPM, IBS, University of Putra Malaysia, Malaysia, to study the mechanism of action of anticancer drug extracts from natural products and the genotoxic effects of drug extracts using cytogenetics end points (2006-2009). I’ve about 22-years of experience in teaching Biochemistry, Clinical Chemistry, Nutritional Chemistry and Cell and Molecular Biology, in medical schools and graduate programs. Over the past thirteen years, I’ve tutored a variety of courses in the field of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Clinical Biochemistry. Over 65+ published papers and an international Patents in WIPO, EPO, USPO, Japan Patent Office and Australian Patent Office.

LABM1500

Molecular Cell Biology

Credit Hours: 3
Course term: 3
Communication Hours: 4

The course teaches the cell theory, the fundamentals of cell biology, and the differences between eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. Special emphasis will be made on the biology of the human cell. The molecular and physical structure and the functions of cells and their organelles will be detailed. The way by which cells communicate and the types of cell signaling, with appropriate examples, is also detailed.

Initial digestion and absorption of food material will be discussed. The major metabolic pathways of carbohydrates, fatty acids, and amino acids are also discussed. Finally the Metabolic control and the role of hormones in the regulation of metabolic pathway are also discussed. The accompanying labs will reinforce lecture through hands-on experimentation. Students will acquire skills in visualizing the molecular world of health science.

This course aims to focus on the choice and interpretation of investigations in the diagnosis and management of conditions where biochemical testing plays a key role, with a view to understanding not only their uses but also developing an appreciation of their limitations. It includes an essential topics for medical student knowledge such as, hormones, adrenal function, gonadal function, thyroid function, calcium homeostasis and hormonal regulation, cardiovascular diseases and liver diseases.

The course offers the students tests associated with various groups of analytes such as carbohydrates, Iipids, and proteins. Lecture stresses the analytical physiological basis of human metabolites in health and disease. These approaches will be used in preference to a more clinical/ medical approach where a particular disease would be studied and all the various analytes considered which are of diagnostic relevance. The accompanying labs will reinforce lecture through hands-on exp.
